You Doodle

Very comprehensive for a free offering, You Doodle is a popular drawing app that boasts a wealth of fun features, such as the ability to record the screen as you draw, add graphical "stamps," select frames and create collages.
The drawing tools are extensive, and you can really drill down into the settings to get the correct effect — line width, color, opacity, etc. — that you're looking for.
This app also really shines when it comes to adding typed text. It has a wide variety of available fonts and offers the ability to import your own.
Tayasui Sketches

With a super-clean, minimal user interface, Tayasui Sketches is a great doodling app for grown-ups. On-screen controls are discreet, giving you a larger canvas to get creative.
The free tools for drawing or writing are fabulously responsive, while the color picker is simple to use and lets you choose pretty much any shade you could ever need.
Of particular note is the fountain pen tool, which gives you the option to create elegant notes and the watercolor brush, which builds delicate layers as you "paint" on the screen.
Inkboard

Inkboard is another app with a cleverly thought-out interface. Simple but effective graphics show the drawing options, including pens, markers, a highlighter, pencils, crayons, erasers and the recent addition of chalk, which is a really realistic effect.
Color options are on the basic side, but the ability to draw very delicate lines with some of the tools might outweigh this downside for some.
Once you've finished your masterpiece and saved it, sharing options are super-easy, with Tumblr and WhatsApp buttons built in and further options available at the press of a button.
Let's Draw

Let's Draw is an easy-to-use option that makes it simple to draw on photos and add typed text. You can choose from five pen thicknesses and 45 different colors — but sadly only one font.
Once you've loaded up your image from your iPhone's Camera Roll, it will take you literally seconds to get going with the app. All the controls are along the bottom of the screen and are simple to navigate.
When you're done, the app offers built-in functionality to email your creations, save them or post them to Twitter and Facebook.
